It’s almost my birthday!! This Friday to be exact. I won’t tell you how old I’ll be but I will tell you that I’m starting a pre-celebration by gathering up my favorite birthday cocktails!
Granted, you could probably find me consuming these at any given time of the year in the past. Typically these days, it’s just wine. With a bit of beer thrown into the mix, you know, to keep it simple!

I remember on the night of my 19th birthday (cuz I’m Canadian, eh!) Waiting in the lobby of the first bar me and some girlfriends would be going to. Anxiously, and excitedly waiting for the clock to hit midnight. Like some sort of backward Cinderella. I’m sure the bouncer thought we were some odd type of lurkers. Either way, the excitement was killing me!&url=x" data-link="https://twitter.com/share?text=Check+out+this+blogger%27s+favorite+%23birthdaycocktails%21+via+%40winenmommytime+https%3A%2F%2Ftinyurl.com%2Fy792cukn&via=">&url=x" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Check out this blogger's favorite birthday cocktails!Click To Tweet
Fast forward many years from then, I have no idea what my birthday will hold this year but we shall see!
To be honest though, having a birthday, immediately following the holidays really kind of sucks. Why? Well, I’ll give you a few reasons. It’s when we’d be back to school from Christmas break, everyone’s broke, oh and again, everyone’s broke.
So folks, when you’re planning to procreate. For the sake of your potential offspring, please don’t get randy around April. It’s for the better of your wallet, and your child’s social life later on.
Buttery rose // recipe below
- 2oz creme de banana
- 2 oz baja rosa (or strawberry creme liqueur)
- 2 oz your choice of vodka
Shake first three ingredients together with ice. Pour into a glass and top with milk. Garnish with a strawberry, cherry or both!
The first time I had this cocktail was when the husband and I were dating. We did a little pub crawl for two and ended up at the casino bar. I told the bartender that I wanted something different that I hadn’t tried before. I’ll never forget that night or that drink!
Purple haze // recipe below
- 1 oz Blue Curacao
- 1 oz Vodka
- Splash of grenadine
Pour the vodka and curacao into a cocktail glass. Fill with sprite and top with a splash of grenadine to turn it purple.
This was easily my go-to drink when we’d go out dancing! Maybe it was the color, maybe it was the flavour. Regardless, I love me some purple haze. Also known as the purple people eater for some!
Cosmopolitan // recipe below
- 1 ½ oz vodka
- ½ oz triple sec
- ½ of a freshly squeezed lime
- ¾ oz cranberry juice
Shake ingredients with ice. Serve in a martini glass with an orange zest twirl for garnish!
Made popular by Sex and the City, made tasty by bartenders. A cosmo is something that will be nearly identical anywhere you go.
Rum and coke – self-explanatory
Cranberry vodka – also self-explanatory
Real lime and vodka – The main part of this is real lime juice. Not that fluorescent green crap most places try to pawn off on you. If they don’t have real lime juice just ask for a bunch of limes and there you go.
Wine of choice
Spring/Summer – Pinot Grigio or rose, sometimes a Chardonnay
Fall/Winter – Malbec, Merlot, Pinot noir, or Cab Sav
Frankly, any wine is fine. And yes, I know that rhymed!
Beer of choice
Spring/Summer – Hefeweizen or any light, crisp beer
Fall/Winter – stout or porter
Way back, I also shared a post, wine for every occasion. Really applicable! I highly suggest checking it out.
